Flow of MAP (Merchandise Assortment Planning)

Hi Guys,

Here is something more for you on Merchandise and Assortment Planning.

Merchandise and Assortment Planning stands on two systems, BI and ECC.
The planning part starts from the BI system. where the data from the front end POS system also comes and taken into account for the analyses of futuristic approach (planning).

The flow as i mentioned in my last post is to do a discrete level of analysis to determine more accurate value of OTB and Assortments (Product Mix).
The flow is
1.) Strategic Planning ---> Merchandise Planning ---> Markdown Planning ---> OTB planning
2.) Strategic Planning ---> Store Planning ---> Assortment Planning ---> OAPC

OTB Budgets
The Sales coming from POS system and inventory data coming from ECC is combined together to determine the OTB to achieve the budgets of the company. This process is done in
OTB planning layout. The planned OTB budgets are pushed into ECC through Budget Monitor.

The budgets in ECC goes with information of
- Category

- Season
- Period
- Year

All these parameters got validate in the ECC system during the purchase order creation, and the proper budgets exhausted equal to the purchase order value.

OAPC
After the Strategic Planning, the targets at store level for each hierarchy level is determined in the planning layout.

Based on the targets of store, the assortments planning is done which are pushed into ECC for OAPC determination in PO.
The quantities from the OAPC and the budgets from the OTB used to control the purchasing part in ECC.
The budget exhausted out of the planned budget can be tracked with th budget monitor.

  1. These sort of presentations are great for high level but what happens if you are not using SAP's MAP. I have a client who is using a different system and wants to process via OAPC. What are the interfaces provided by SAP and which tables do they update

    1. Hi, SAP's MAP is no doubt a very powerful and seamlessly integrated system for planning as it resides on BI platform.
OAPC is an executioner part, If the client is using another system for planning wants to use OAPC for execution, then it has to be integrated manually.
The interface has to built manually to fetch the details of articles, quantities and assortments. And the interface would be a complex one off course. Unfortunately SAP doesn't provide any standard interface for third party planning tools to integrate with OTB or OAPC.
One Question: Which system client is using for OTB, is it MAP or any other system?

  3. Is it possible to implement the OTB functionality without SAP MAP configured in ECC ? or without interference of SAP BI ?

  4. Any third party system can be used to fetch the planning data and the budgets to ECC instead of the BI platform, but a lot of development will be required to do so. As there are lot of checks and interfaces are given in the standard solution.
It requires and expertise of the solution and rigrous testing, which i very complicated and not recommended.
I hope that answers your question.
